Purchased this from a relative who lost her Mom; and had her first 'real' CLOSE experience with death. From just skimming it, it looked like it talked honestly about feelings and attitudes (of self AND others), on this sensitive subject. Easy-to-read and clear. Liked it as a 'go-to book' or a continuous read for a young person, after such a traumatic experience. Haven't had feedback from her, but know that weather she reads it 'right-away' or pulls it out for 'a moment in time,' she will appreciate the gift.

My 15 year old who's grandmother died 2 months ago was not impressed at all. She plans to read my copy of "I Wasn't Readt to Say Goodbye" when i'm done. I will read this book for myself but if she's correct i am disappointed.

The topics are broken down further in the table of contents. The text is appropriate for all reading levels with an easy to read format that allows for thumbing though the material. Several of the pages are nearly poetry, with space for introspection and notes. The book is written to teens from the perspective of an adult guiding the journey.

I bought two copies of this book for 2 of my middle school students who recently lost a close family member, and they both said that it helped them a lot. I flipped through it, and it was easy to read, and made a lot of sense. Very helpful insights.

This is a very powerful book. It is very good for teens and adults to read.It helps people with death of friends or family.It is very well written and I know that it can definitely help with the loss of a loved one.

I'm a middle school guidance counselor. I give this book out far too often to students who have a parent or other loved one die. The kids say that it is helpful and easy to read. The pages aren't long and the type is big so they don't feel overwhelmed with too much information. I'd highly recommend this as I've heard from teenagers how it helped them.

I purchased this to help guide my instructional planning for my 11th grade U.S. History class. I really like the format of this book and the idea of teaching the course thematically. The book does do a very good job of giving you an idea of how to break down the course into thematic units and gives lesson plans for those units. If you just want to see how to structure the course thematically, you can get most of what you need from the table of contents- which is available for free to preview on Amazon.The reason why I didn't give this five stars is because the book has three fundamentally fatal flaws...First, the lessons provided in the book are not really realistic for a high school classroom. If I used these activities in the book the way that is indicated in the included lessons- I think that my students would revolt after a week or two of doing pretty much the exact same thing each day. Each lesson pretty much involves the same setup: 1) Opening Question and discussion. 2) The teacher gives some background about the topic in a mini-lecture that lasts like five or ten minutes. 3) Students read the primary source and answer 2-3 questions. 4) A quick class-closing discussion. I like the included documents- but the fact that students are going to be doing the same thing each day is unrealistic (or just horrible teaching if you follow the book's exact format).Second, there is absolutely no differentiation present in this book. None. Unless you have a class full of on-level readers who have no special needs, the teacher will need to make significant adjustments to the lessons.Third, and this is related to my second concern above... This book assumes that students will be able to read and understand all of the documents. If you teach in a prominent area where you are lucky enough to have students who all read on or above level- you can probably use this book as long as you understand that you'll need to switch up the structure of the lessons so that students aren't doing the same thing each day. If you aren't lucky enough to teach those type of children, you'll need to do some heavy-duty adjustments to differentiate so that students of all abilities can understand the texts and how they fit into a unit's theme.I've been teaching for eleven years- and I've never been the type of teacher that just grabs something out of the teacher's manual or curriculum guide. Working in an impoverished school where my students include low-reading levels, poverty, trauma, and are often unmotivated- I've always had to significantly modify resources and texts to fit their needs. This book is no exception. I love the ideas presented in the book- but they will likely need to be significantly modified to meet the needs of most students/classrooms.

I used this for my adult education classes, and I loved it. It has great questions and is very adaptable.

I love this book! It came in super handy for my student teaching, in which I passed!!! It helps to promote literacy fluency and development. The lessons are easy to complete in one class period, but I would go in depth and cover documents in two days (along with activities and presentations). This was an amazing book and I’m glad I purchased it.

Wonderful idea in changing the approach to teaching Us History

I am a high school history teacher and in the past couple years have started looking at teaching my classes thematically. I came across this book and had it ordered for my department. It has led to some amazing discussions and professional development at our school.First I like how thoughtful each unit is. Far from being just a straight, chronological exploration of history, the units are well crafted, using modern day issues as a jumping off point. I found myself diving into the documents because the essential questions helped to pique my curiosity and I have used this book to structure my own thematic units.Second, I like the questions that are included for each document. Ms. Metro again does an excellent job of being thoughtful. These are not just simple comprehension questions. Many of them ask students to refer to previous documents and previous units to compare perspectives, and the questions have some built-in activities as well.Finally, I found it helpful how Ms. Metro includes a basic overview of how her class was structured. This helped to provide a useful framework and helped me to visualize how it might look in my own classroom.If you are looking for a unique and innovative approach to history teaching, than this book is for you. I don't think that Ms. Metro intends that people will just buy the book and use it word-for-word. Rather I think she wants it to inspire teachers to think outside the box we have put ourselves in by way of conventional textbooks.

This is an oldie but a goody. The author’s recommendations and findings are not necessarily politically correct; however, they are generally accurate. Instead of saying the “right” thing, he instead tries to accurately report what has been found in studies or surveys. The truth is not always pleasant or what you want to hear, but it is still important to know. Many of the findings seem/sound outdated because of the way we think about these things in today’s society. I wish many of the statistics were different. This book gives much needed insight. Even if you don’t agree with the opinions, you are given the knowledge that they exist. A few things are outdated as time has passed, but an educated reader can infer the meaning behind the thoughts and apply them to be current.

I read the first edition of this book in the 1980's and loved it. I bought this new edition as my old original copy fell apart I used it so much!Again I find my self entering an new area of employment, after a long absence (15+ years as my Dad's caregiver on a 24/7 basis. This time I will be self employed due to my age and limited ability. This book is GREAT - so encouraging, made me want to rush out and get things rolling (and I did by getting rid of my gray hair! - back ot auburn and I am almost embarrassed to tell the rave reviews I got from friends and family. My pastor's wife said, "Wow! You look so young and beautiful (now there are two words I haven't heard to describe me in so long I can't recall the last time I received this kind of compliment.You know a little of my story of how this new version of Women's Dress for Success has helped me. Need to be more effective in your business or career? This book is a good place to start seeking for ideas and assistance.

Although this was updated in the 90's, and is therefore out of date, the advice is still extremely relevant. I appreciated the section on women that have to make-down, instead of make-up, it was an eye opener! I noticed that in the 90's version of this book Molloy left out the section on what to wear to be successful with different types of men that was included in the 70's edition of this book. I'm assuming that he got some flack for that section from feminists and while that's understandable, I wish it had been included in this edition because it was an interesting section :)

This new edition of "Women's Dress for Success" covers a lot more than clothes and accessories, and is a treasure trove of advice for any woman interested in self improvement. For most of us, there is usually room for "image enhancement," in how we present ourselves to the world, as our way of dressing and speaking, etc. all sends a message. John Molloy's recommendations are also helpful if you are on a budget. His "fabric test," color combinations, and style tips will save you a lot of money, and you can even do well using his guidelines shopping in a thrift store! You will no longer buy without planning, the things in your closet will mix and match properly, and you will not buy something "just because it's on sale," and find later that it doesn't really look good with anything else you own.John Molloy covers the basics of what to wear in a business environment, which he has researched extensively, and very few of the guidelines have changed over the years. The one thing he states that has changed, is that now "dressing for success" is "almost universally accepted," and yes, there is a double standard, as men can get away with dressing poorly, but few women can, if they want the corner office with the view. Some of Molloy's research is fascinating, especially in the legal profession, as he explains how color, style, and dress size will influence a jury ("In personal injury cases, clients were more likely to be believed if they wore outfits one size too large").Aside from advice on clothes, accessories, and hair styles (all accompanied by black and white drawings), Molloy discusses body language (posture and facial expression), and the all-important and often ignored speech pattern, vocabulary and voice tone. He recommends recording oneself while on the telephone with friends, and playing it back. Anyone who has not done this is in for a surprise! Molloy also covers weight and height, and how the clothes you choose should change according to your size. Informative and entertaining, "New Women's Dress for Success" is a classic, and well worth reading if you want to "move up the corporate ladder," or just want an organized closet of clothes that make the most of who you are.

This is a very informative book that is a must for a professional woman and even non professional women who want more respect. I have had it for years. I wish he would put out a new one. He supports his conclusions with detailed studies, using lots of people. He covers everything, from hair styles and makeup, to shoes and briefcases.I just checked the statistics, and men are still out earning women! So more women need to read this book!I agree, the jacket is still the hallmark of the American businesswoman. It is worth it to buy a wool suit, as you will spend less time keeping it looking good verses another fabric. If you own one jacket, it should be navy.However, he says not to wear pants unless you must. It looks like pant suits are much more accepted today than 15 years ago.From what I recall, he notes that the briefcase should be brown, but the shoes were best at navy, and who knows the color of the belt. I think it looks better to have the same color leather for those things and black is pretty flexible.You have to read the entire book as acceptable dress is different in different situations.

The cartoons seem to promote stereotypes of Arabs that are derogatory. I threw the book out before I entered Saudi Arabia. I did not want anyone to think I'd taken such a book seriously.

I bought this book for my Granddaughter (9 yr old), who loves dogs. I read it first and it was a good story. My granddaughter loved it and read it in a few days. She asked if there would be more books in the series. I told her I would watch for them and buy them for her it there were more.. Highly recommended for young dog lovers!

I read this and was pleasantly surprised. The book is laugh out loud funny and the illustrations are right on point. I plan to give this book to my grandson. Truly a wonderful story.

Both my 11, 10 and 8 year old boys loved it.
