This is everything we wanted to help us talk to our 11 year old daughter. She's an avid reader and does better with written information than verbal. I checked this book out at the local library and was impressed so I bought her one on Amazon so she could write notes in it and refer to it. While it was not the only thing we used in our discussion, it was nice to give her something to walk away with for future discussions. Highly Recommend.

This is a tough talk to have with the kids, and I appreciate the approach this book takes: If you are going to have sex, then you must assume you are ready to raise a baby.It's clinical and not opinionated, it discusses dangers like diseases including pregnancy, and it covers bodily changes. But it also covers a bit on how sex is a part of relationships, and no one should feel pressured to have sex.

Just enough information to the get the point across, without going too far. It was for an 11 year old boy, would recommend

I ordered this book to give to my 11 1/2 year old son who decided he wasn’t going to do the homework he was assigned at school for sex ed. This was partly a punishment and partly because he needs to learn about sex and I figured this would be the least awkward way (for him) to teach him. I chose to read the book first to see if it was age appropriate for him and I’m no prude but I was squirming at a few parts just thinking about him reading it. Maybe I’m naive or over protective but maybe I’ll wait a few more months before having him read this book.

My daughter refuses to read this book. Maybe if they were a little more discreet with the cover she would have read it.

His area of specialization is analytical sociology. The central fact about contemporary sociology is that it has no core theory. This doesn't prevent applied sociologists from doing very good work based on what is called "middle level theory." But what one learns in graduate school is parade of sociological gurus, such as Pareto, Simmel, Weber, Durkheim, Parsons, Homans, Goffman, Garfinkle, Schutz, and so on. Moreover the culture of high level sociological theory is that one must uniquely individual, basing one's ideas as much as possible on one's own psyche, not the work of previous researchers. Doing high level sociological theory is thus like painting or writing fiction. This of course is but the cause and the effect of the absence of core sociological theory.Obviously, then, sociology is a science only from the middle level down, and it is to the credit of a younger generation of sociological theorists that they are trying to create at least a unified middle-level theory, which the authors of this handbook call "analytical sociology." There are two major points to make about this new school of thought (I will call it a "school" in that Hedström and Bearman argue eloquently in the "Foundations" part of the book that it has enough unity to define it as a cogent intellectual entity). First, the analytical foundations of neighboring fields, psychology, biology, economics, and political science have analytical cores that are deeply mathematical, and students learn to deal with the core even if they themselves favor applied work. In this Handbook there are virtually no equations, and certainly no analytical theory based on formal modeling. Second, the editors' exposition of core analytical sociology has no substantive principles at all, but merely methodological principles. The first fifty pages, outlining analytical sociology, are virtually exclusively methodological.Are these facts a problem? I believe they are. Methodology is for the philosophers, not for the scientists. And scientist should be able to formulate and understand, if not personally produce, analytical theory in the form of mathematical models. The problem, of course, is that most "analytical sociologists" reject the rational actor model in any form, and this is a big mistake. I should note that in 1995, Hedström and Swedeberg wrote a very insightful paper urging the adoption of the rational actor model by sociologists. This book is a big step back.Despite the failure of this Handbook to credibly establish "analytical sociology," there are many fine contributions by individual authors, Parts II and IV being especially useful. There is nice chapter on emotions by Jon Elster, an excellent chapter on beliefs by Jens Rydgren, and a decent job of explaining signaling models without equations by Diego Gambetta. Typical for sociologists who are afraid of being assimilated by economics and psychology, fine chapters on game theory and behavioral game theory are relegated to the back of the book.

Sandra Cerny Minton, PhD, was professor and dance director at the University of Northern Colorado from 1972 to 1998. She is now a dance specialist in the public schools. Her other books include Modern Dance: Body & Mind (1991), Dance Mind & Body (2003), and Preventing Dance Injuries (2005), on which she served as a coeditor. Dr. Minton's research has focused on dance teachers' behaviors, the role of imagery in teaching dance, and the effects of dance on students' self-esteem and creative thinking. This research has been published in several juried journals. In 1999, Dr Minton was selected as the National Dance Association Artist/Scholar, and in 2001 she taught in Finland as a Fulbright Scholar.

I found this book very helpful! This book has photos of stage dos & don'ts, and covers everything from movement exploration, to how lighting and costumes effect the dance. Everything from coming up with the dance, to auditioning other dancers to stage set up, to performance is covered. This is a "hands-on" book, with lots of exercises for the dancer to play with. In the rear of the book is forms and checklists that will help make choreography and booking a lot easier. Well written out, and lots of photos to illistrate the writer's meaning. Since in dance, a picture IS worth a 1,000 words.

I like the Q&A format. It certainly covers the most important aspects of the bankruptcy process in a reader-friendly way.

This book is different given that it gives you a more practical look at the subject than just theory. Main reason I think is that its written by people in the business. Also very easy read, which makes it so much better as a source of reference to go to any chapter to refresh your knowledge. I wanted something concise and comprehensive and could not have asked for a better book. Now I wish that it was more detailed.

The Art of Distressed M&A, unlike many books that have come before on this topic, is a well written, well organized source of truly practical advice on leading and/or participating in a troubled company sale process. Accessible to the business executive and the distressed advisor alike, the book treats all aspects of the distressed company sale process in great detail, without being overly burdened by jargon. I highly recommend the book to young legal and banking professionals embarking on a career in distressed advisory work, as well as company management teams seeking to understand what lies ahead as their company heads toward the auction block.

"The Art of Distressed M&A" is an excellent book for any investor's shelf. As an equity research professional, I was looking for a book to give me an overview of the bankruptcy process. Not only did the book provide all of the key basics, it also had enough depth to become a fantastic resource that I have on my bookshelf to go to every time I need to know something about bankruptcies.I thought the book had many strengths, but I will mention just a few:1. The organization of the book was excellent. As someone with experience in finance, but with virtually no knowledge about bankruptcies, I was afraid that any book on the topic would be far too detailed for what I was looking for. That turned out not to be the case at all with "The Art of Distressed M&A." The book started with general bankruptcy topics then became more and more complex as the book proceeds. This allowed me to get all the bankruptcy basics that I was looking for (i.e. on DIP financing, Chapter 7s vs. Chapter 11s, etc.) in the first sections of the book.As the writing proceeds, it becomes more and more detailed. I found myself skimming the last few sections, but I think that was the authors' intent. The final sections are more as a reference resource than something to read like a novel. Now I know that whenever I need a specific detail about bankruptcy M&A, I can simply go to the index and find what I'm looking for.2. Statistics. The authors really focused on the important statistics, which were timely, without overloading the flow of the writing with numbers.3. Quotes. At the beginning of each chapter, the authors put an excellent quote from a variety of different disciplines. I found myself highlighting virtually every quote, which really shows that the authors thought deeply about including the best ones to capture each chapter's message.In summary, I highly recommend adding this to your bookshelf if you are a serious investor who wants to further understand the basics and intricacies of bankruptcies. I really thought this was a great purchase and a fantastic book that I will refer to for years to come.

This book leaves no stone unturned. Concepts are explained concisely. The question and answer format throughout the book really simplifies comprehension.

A great book that covers far more than restructuring. Some of the most valuable insights were not apparent at first. As the book dives deeper into company structure and thus restructuring, you begin to see the value in peeling back the layers of a corporation to find out what they do well and where they can improve. I used this book as a way to take a corporation and "reverse engineer" its progression to discover what they do well, and more importantly, what they chose not to do as a matter of strategy. The tools provided here will make any company stronger in avoiding the pitfalls of a restructuring and navigating through the complexities of restructuring if so needed.The Art of Distressed M&A should be on the bookshelf of anyone looking to take a deeper dive into what makes a corporation great, what signs emerge when a corporation is faltering, and how to successfully restructure and emerge as a stronger corporation. The "Art" of this book is in the the straightforward concepts brought forward in a way that make the application of knowledge something that can be used next day.In addition to the book being a valuable tool, one of the authors (Jeff Anapolsky) is a professor at the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University, a top 10 business school. At the Jones School Mr. Anapolsky's courses add to the fundamentals of finance not typically covered in traditional graduate education.
