I guess it's impossible to write a travel guide book that pleases everyone, and Fodor's is in the business of getting as wide an audience as possible but I didn't find anything in this book that distinguished it from competitors. In fact, I found some of the more glaring omissions to be downright annoying. For example, it would have been useful to know that many of the national parks and sites charge admission fees or fees for access and that often times credit cards aren't accepted and there is little or no access to ATMs in some places. The book gives a disproportionate amount of space given to more popular, touristy destinations which is fine but it would have been nice to get more info on some other, equally stunning but less traveled (by foreign tourists) areas such as the Beara Peninsula. I could go on and on. But it's an ok book. You could do worse.

This is a typical Fodors guide book. Some stuff is there, so is not. There is a lot to see in Ireland. The book is broken up into sections and gives you a pretty good overview. It is worth it to take a bus tour at least one day to hear more details about the history and just sit back and listen. This book helped us decide where to go and what to see, not so much where to stay or eat.

I have read through the sections of this guide pertaining to Dublin, County Clare, Galway, Sligo and Donegal. My main objective was to identify sites to visit--historical sites, pubs with sessions, special places to eat and interesting shops. The guide was an excellent resource for this.I did not use the guide for selecting a hotel, and I noticed that the affordable family-oriented places that we plan to say at are not listed. Other guides might be better for selecting lodging in boutique hotels.The tips throughout the guide were consistently useful. More tips on driving in Ireland could be useful.

This is a great overview of what it's like to be a tourist in Ireland. It showcases the history, as well as the splendor of the country. Whenever and wherever we travel, I get Fodor's and Frommer's travel guides--as I did in this case preparing for our Ireland Tour. They complement and supplement each other. They are the best guides.

This book is not as helpful as previous Fodor guides. It is very wordy and repetitive. Rick Steve's book was far more useful.

Great book to get an understanding of just what Ireland has to offer. We are planning our trip for next year and this is exactly what we were looking for.

I'm not sure how anyone could give this anything other than a one star rating. There are no pictures, only instructions. There are only instructions for five or six animals. The pictures on the cover of the book are of totally different animals than the ones that the instructions are for. You can't have an effective craft book without pictures. It just doesn't work. I think this "author" is just trying to make a quick buck. There's no way the four and five star reviews are legitimate. Don't bother!

I can't understand why anyone would leave anything but a 1-star review for this book. Unfortunately, I paid full price (purchased too quickly without doing my research) and boy do I regret it! DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID!First, don't plan on making any of the animals on the cover, because none of them are in the book.Second, there are no step-by-step pictures. What kind of crafting book wizardry is this?Third, there are "links" that are just sentences in bold and underline, but without an actual address listed, rendering them useless for a printed book. Hello?Fourth, it's tiny. One could print this on 9 sheets of paper and then fold them in half and there would be the entire book.

I gave this book one star because 0 stars was not an option. This book is not worth $4.99 much less $49.00. It's tiny, there are no color photos and what few photos there are can barely be made out. I bought this for my 12 year old granddaughter who just started working with clay. I will not be helpful in the least! I might as well have tossed $50.00 out a car window! I am so mad right now I could bite through a nail! Don't waste your money on this publication.

Yet another art/craft instruction book without pictures. Even if the writing is superb (it isn't) and the instructions are clear and concise (they aren't), a book about polymer creations without pictures is BOR-ing. Meh.

I paid AUS $86 for this book thinking I had purchased a really good instructional book to help me learn about Polymer Clay. When I picked it up I was horrified to find that my 'Book' was no more than a few pages of poorly printed drivel. The introduction says,"Thanking you for Downloading this Book" !!!!!!! And it constantly makes reference to various downloads and YouTube videos, none which the links are shown.So to sum up AUS $86 for a mere 15 pages of drivel. That is $5.73 per page !!!A complete rip off!!! DO NOT GET SUCKED IN AT ANY COST!

I am glad this book was free. I was really expecting step by step instructions with pictures of how my clay balls were supposed to look. I did learn a couple of hints on how to handle the clay, so the book was not a total loss.

Aww. There are no pictures that go along with the explanations on how to make things. So disappointing.

Very wordy book, no pictures except on the cover. No step by step depicting the process. Very disappointing book. A waste of time.

And her helpful book includes a beginner’s guide.She tells us about such tasty dishes as Italian Style Potatoes, Rice Recipes, Mushroom Oatmeal. Asian Butter Chicken, Easy Chicken Salad, Chicken Liver Breakfast, Special Beef Roast, Mixed Mushroom Pate, and many more, including many deserts.She tells us how to use a pot, how to set the timer for various dishes, how to slow cook, keep warm, and more. She defines various measurements for us such as 12 teaspoons equals ¾ cup. She gives us ingredients for each dish, total time necessary to cook it, serving size, detailed easy to read instructions, and the nutrition, such as calories and fat.It is easy to use her book to navigate from one item to another by simply touching the item.In short, Suzy Susson makes it easy for us to enjoy good foods.

The book starts off great, David gives a good overview of what certainly is a good system to follow.The finer details and exact processes are skimmed over with the promise that these are looked at in detail by the author himself and can be attained from his paid for news letter.

There are some useful information, but not everything is clear. It's not not so easy to find the relevant indicators of the companies (e.g. shareholder yield) on the internet or if you want to get it, you need to pay for an analyst service that costs very much. In the book the author offers his newsletter as an easy way to find the perfect share every month so I think this is only a beginners guide and not the holy grail...

This was an interesting read and a decent sounding system. But, as with the majority of these system books, it read like a sales pitch. Then it turned seamlessly into a sales pitch. A good one too! The majority of the book, it seemed, was quotations from other publications. Don’t get me wrong...I don’t regret reading it. I’m just disappointed with it. Do not recommend. You can get more info from other books.

David lays out his logic which seems sound. His presentation is a little short of training the reader to be a DYI but the topics, metrics, etc are covered. It would be great to see a track record of results for his system however that is not quite possible due to the small subjective piece of the process. Who knows, if David employs a third party to audit his stock picks going forward perhaps he will absolutely kill it over the next decade. Unfortunately it takes 5 to 10 years to know.

Will add this to my select few books on investing. This writer is a spot on low risk high return divided investor with a selection criteria which will allow those who follow such years of investment growth and sleep filled nights.

I have started alone becoming a successfull investor. For this I read books, researched on Internet, read forums and so on. After 2 years I found this book. I was astonished about the simplicity how investing is presented to the reader. I found all valuable information and knowhow gathered over these years collected and organised in one single book and presented in a way that anybody from a non-financial background can easily understand it. Moreover, it presents a process that over long term definitely leads to success. I recommend to everyone who does not want to get rich in one day.

Similar to his former book (which is available only in Hungarian) David describe his method in a very logical way on a step by step basis. This book is a fresh fountain if you are bored from crowd of the 'howtobecomerich' books. You may not agree with every suggestions, but it will definitely influence your investment perspective.

Yes, the book is “old” and statistics are not current. However, the problem remains the same or worse in this institutionalized period (2018) of discrimination. This is basic background material. But, this book empowered Robert Kennedy’s demolished intent to improve the fabric of American society. Harrington believed it would take governmental planning and social investment to really deal with poverty. The American poor are often “invisible” to the mainstream. (p.2). The poor themselves often are pessimistic and victims of mental suffering, and often victims of institutionalized racism... Charity and private pensions meet only a fraction of the poor’s needs. (p. 119) The poor seem to suffer a greater percentage of mental illness. (p. 122.). “The poor are not like everyone else. They are a different kind of people. They think and feel differently; they look upon a different American than the middle class looks upon. They, and not the quietly desperate clerk or the harried executive, are the main victims of this society’s tension and conflict.” (p. 138.) America, according to Harrington has sought the integration of the poor with the poor and the segregation of the other Americans and society at large. (p. 154.) The impoverished see life as fate from which there is no escape. The huge federal initiative for improvement and will not happen with the current department administrator (2018) and apparent successors. The book is an informative read. Though a bit old, the author's intent still rings clear.

A concise and scholarly explanation of the evolution of the America that most social science books neglect to mention. Somewhere down the road of time, when people are trying to figure how what happened here, this is one of those places that they will find the origins of Americas accelerated downfall.

Actually read this book the first time 50 years ago when it came out. Reading it this time, it has caused me to see how much no longer applies, how much has changed for both good and bad, and how the original program has gone awry. For far too many, history begins today, which is so far from the truth. At least this book will give you a feel for what things were like fifty years ago instead of taking the word of some revisionist which is too often the case.

A great book. It paints a different picture of America that most do not see or admit it exists. Great read even after so many years. What is sad is the fact what was going on in the 60's of the last century, it is still going on in 2016.

This is a must read, and sadly, an issue that has NOT been resolved yet in American society. It breaks my heart to be reading about poverty in the 50s and realizing that the same words that describe poverty in the 50s could be the exact same words that could be used to describe poverty in the 21st century.Essential reading.

This should be required reading for every American. It is even more relevant now than when it was written. A deeply beautiful and profoundly compassionate book. I wish I'd known Harrington. I hope to read everything he wrote!

Michael Harrington, the great socialist-humanitarian writer of the latter half twentieth century wrote "The Other America" in the early 1960's during a time of great change and renewed excitement about the possibilities for the future. Harrington who understood society better than most of his day shunned such discrimination based on race, class, economic standing, or national origin and these honorable views resound very highly in the pages of "The Other America. The book is a study of poverty and its underlying factors in the United States during the fifties and sixties, Harrington who would often move into and work in the neighborhoods and communities he was studying presents a dignified and unbiased case for the inhumanity that existed and still exists in the slums and poor towns of the United States. Harrington takes the gloves off for his analysis of the evolution of poverty. The writer explores the factors of racial discrimination, economic and socioeconomic discrimination, family structural instability, the effect of recessions and hard times on poor communities, and the gap in education that propagates the extension and survival of poverty into the future. One important factor that Harrington continuously brings up in "The Other America" is the views and feelings of indifference that the middle class and well off feel towards the poor and lower classes of the other America. Harrington exposes the inefficient and dastardly laws, mindsets, and societal norms that ensured the survival of poverty into the twentieth century (and surprisingly they ring true for the present day as well). The writer exposes the stories and faces behind the suffering of the other America but also presents ways in which the suffering could be alleviated or poverty stamped out completely in the United States. The socioeconomic analysis that is "The Other America can seem quite statistical to the reader with its constant use of numerical studies and figures to illuminate the problem of poverty, but these bothersome details can be overcome and even appreciated by understanding that "The Other America" was written during a time of rising economic and sociological disparities, and was brought forth to energize and push the country towards creating solutions to these problems in the course of attempting to create a more equal and humility-minded society. A great read nonetheless for it highlights to those willing to listen the need both then and now for a war on poverty.

OK, my disclaimer: I was born in Seattle. I grew up in Seattle. And I lived just over the hill from the actual Lake City neighborhood where much of this novel takes place. The author's take on the neighborhood is so true-to-life, I felt like I might show up as an extra in a scene somewhere. So part of my love for this book is nostalgia. But most of it isn't. For one thing, though I spent most of my growing up years running up and down Lake City Way (with its odd combination of car dealerships, gas stations, convenience stores, a great sushi restaurant, and, yes, Rick's strip club) I've never heard the place described with such gritty smarm (or smarmy grit, if you prefer). Even if you've never been there, you have. Every city has a Lake City. It's America's "every neighborhood that isn't exactly the neighborhood you'd want to live in but probably do or probably have". Of greater interest, however, is our main character, Lane. I won't spoil the fun of describing him here. The author does a great job of revealing this most-anti of anti-heroes. If there's a true hero in this story it is the language. Page after page after page I run into phrases and sentences I love, and I get that feeling so many of us get: "Man, I wish I had written that!" Some of it reminds me of the hard-nosed and pragmatically cynical noir fiction voice of Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler as they animate their famous characters: Sam Spade and Phillip Marlowe. But this is noir fiction with a razor-sharp comic edge. The book is dripping with irony and, frankly, the cynicism about Seattle is so apropos of today's city which I will simply say is not the city of my youth—though Lake City might just be the last place where the old Seattle is still at least on life support. But the themes are universal and universally tragicomic: if you don't see yourself in all the pathos somewhere, you're not being honest. If you've read the author's "Do Travel Writers Go to Hell?: A Swashbuckling Tale of High Adventures, Questionable Ethics, and Professional Hedonism" you'll find yourself right at home. This book could have been called "Do comically self-centered and preternaturally pathetic Columbia Ph.D. candidates living off their wive's trust fund go to Hell?" And, as it happens, indeed they do. Lake City isn't exactly Danté's 7th Circle. It's more like looking into the abyss—and laughing your ass off. If you live in Seattle or have ever lived in Seattle this is a must-read for the local color alone. If you don't give a hoot about Seattle, you owe it to yourself to check this book outs solely on the merits. Go ahead, download the free sample. I was hooked after the first paragraph.

And funny as s---. As someone from the Bay Area, when I saw the buzz about this book and how it depicted the lost Seattle like the lost pre-dot com Bay Area, I was intrigued. Especially that it was going to be told through "a sad-sack antihero who takes way too long to grow up"- as one blurb had it, and had it right. This is a very important tale about the cultural transformations challenging the fabric of cities and communities. It is an essential story about inequality and privilege right now that hits the heart whether or not you live in San Francisco or Seattle or Vancouver or New York or rural Vermont or the Yukon. And what makes it so great is that at its heart its just a great tale about a really cool and sympathetic character who I'd love to drink a beer with.

I bought this novel on a lark because it's set in the gently marginal neighborhood in Seattle where I grew up. I was looking forward to spotting the familiar place names, and, yes, it was fun on that level. But "Lake City" delivered so much more. This is a funny, sad, powerful first novel that screams to be considered beyond the pigeonhole of the "Local Authors" section. Anyone who grew up on the not-quite-right side of the tracks will particularly love it.

As someone who commutes through Lake City for more than 40 years (between Kenmore and UW), I enjoyed remembering the many establishments and conditions in the town. Although the novel’s characters were not especially likable, the story was quite interesting and well written. Overall a good read.

Couldn’t put this book down! The author does an amazing job of describing the main character Lane, a cross between Lloyd Dobbler and Napoleon Dynamite. You both cheer and pity the protagonist as he tries to do the right thing to regain what he believes is his successful life in the big city which is actually quite flawed. A great take on class struggle and the choices we make and outcomes we have to live with!

Even if you didn’t grow up understanding the changes in Seattle over the years, this relevant and timely book may resonate, capturing the complexities change brings to cities. We are all players in this game, watching it unfold through witty and often funny narration. You will love and hate these characters all at once.

I enjoyed the details of LCW, the history and reading about it in the 90's. You end up rooting for Lane and his possibly misguided attempts at doing the right thing. Loved this book and couldn't put it down!

Kohnstamm offers a fresh and important new literary voice. Complex, original characters combined with an insightful, unflinching view of Seattle, and how capitalism has changed it's culture.
