This book is a must have for biomechanics Graduate students. It looks at biomechanics from an engineering standpoint and technological standpoint, not just a math/physics standpoint. It is much cheaper (used) and just as good as the third edition. The only meaningful thing the third edition does better is describe filters (butterworth, spline, etc.). Some other parts of this book could be better explained, but I like the shortness of it overall. It also has Demster's anthropometric data in it that is the most commonly used for inverse dynamic solutions in biomechanics. Overall a great book and I'd recommend it to any advanced biomechanics student, even over the third edition all things considered.

Very comprehensive book. I do wish it would have a little bit of applied statistics in it, but a man can dream right?

This book was required for my Chemistry course and my professor told us specifically to get the 12th edition...............which costs over $200. I found the Global Edition for roughly the same price as it was to rent the American edition. Some of the questions are different. So, if your professor gives assignments from the book (mine doesn't), just take a picture of that page in the American version. The text is the same, word for word. The page numbers are about 32 pages off because Roman numerals are not used for the table of contents, introduction, and preface in the global version.Very interesting book, has detailed explanations. Well written.

The same as in 12th edition, Very clean like NEWOnly difference is that in 12th edition, the chapter 6 is the chapter 4 of this book so that's what you will be seeing so always try to go with the title of discussion when in class.The same exercises, notes, everything.THANK YOU SO MUCH Sold by: Atlanta Book Company

Awesome Book!!! First chapter starts with math.... the book is put together beautifully. Tons of modern day pictures and very interesting health knowledge. I had zero chemistry knowledge. And now... I'm well on my way.

I swear I read that this was used, but when I got it, it was still in its original wrapping. So to get this item brand new at this price was SO WORTH IT! The school I go to sells this text book for about $250 and there was no way I was gonna pay that for a brand new stinking book. I found this book for literally half that price, I was so thankful for that <3

Going through the study checks and questions and problems for every chapter has helped me tremendously to keep a high A in my Chem 105 class. I wish there were answers to the even problems as well to check myself.

This is one of the best texts I have ever used. If you are interested in teaching yourself some chemistry this would not be a bad way to go. Explained in an easy to understand method. Lots of examples and illustrations. The subject maters are kept fairly small in order to really promote understanding and allowing you to slowly build your knowledge one piece at a time. Also, the practices at the end of each section will really help you solidify what you have been reading. Great book.

Time of rental is too short, I guess that's a way to get more money from students. Rental time should match school semester. As it is, you have to pay $9.00+ for an extra week.

This is not a comment to the use of the book but rather the service that I received.It is important to know that the kindle book does not come with an access code and I desperately need one for my Chem 100 class. I ended up finding a bundle for $135 on MasteringChemistry.comHowever, since I had opened the kindle edition already in search of an access code, I could not return it.So I sent an e-mail explaining the situation and within 15 MINUTES I had a reply stating that I would receive a refund and that the book would be removed from my kindle library.I cannot even begin to express how happy I am with the service that I've received!

A lively, often funny, account of trying to traverse a great Asian river. Well written, and a fast read.

Amazing book! Most enjoyable reading. We read it as a library borrowing and loved it so much that we wanted to own a copy. We looked everywhere and were so thrilled to find used copies in great condition in Amazon. It took a little longer than we expected but it was well worth the wait.

I did enjoy reading most of this, but found the river a lot less interesting than the dogs featured in the book. I liked the descriptions of the different areas on countries he visited, and the commentary on the political situation/history there.What I didn't like was that some sections seem to talk too much about the difficulty making travel arrangements, which although relevant was pretty dull. You knew all along that he would abandon the dog at the end, but he seemed to find the separation more difficult than the dog did!

only about half the book was based on the journey down the river - I guess there was not so much to see from the side of the boat?the travel arrangements took up too much of this book, so while it was well researched and interesting much of the book was slow going - the dog (or dogs) are more exciting than the author!

Delightful. Going to an English friend with whom I have traveled around SE Asia and India.

The Almanac is great in that way. Other than great detail for Boston and New England, for which this book is geared, there are merely one-page WEATHER sections for the other parts of the U.S.(pages 192 to 208 only), but most of the book is geared for Boston & New England. This book is also like any magazine.... crammed full of advertisements. This book has 288 pages.

I love the Old Farmer's Almanac. It's a goldmine of obscure facts, commonsense oddities, and useful tidbits about basically everything under the sun -- from astronomy to astrology, from farming practices to American history, from vocabulary to old-timey cooking tips (like cooking corn in a cooler. Who knew?!). The articles and tidbits are usually short enough that you can read one in just a few minutes, which makes it a perfect coffee table book. This version also does contain the storied weather forecasts for the coming year, too, broken down according to region, though it does say that it was "Fitted for Boston and the New England States with special corrections and calculations to answer for all the United States" (which was fine by me, since I am in New England).I will say that the Almanac is not very intuitively organized, but I actually think that's part of the fun of it -- digging around and opening to random pages and seeing what you find. If you're looking for a quirky little book of diversions, you can't go wrong with this old favorite.

Boo for continuous pages. It's not the Almanac's fault, though. I just don't like the way it's formatted in a running page type of format instead of page by page like the paper book. This makes it hard to see images on the smaller kindle, requiring some assistance from the PC version of Kindle for me.I'm still thrilled that the Almanac is available on Kindle and that I can carry it around with me wherever I go. As always, the Almanac has it's cute, annual articles and recipes along with it's world renowned winter forecasts. The forecasts are direct (and hopefully accurate this year) and covers all regions, not just the northeast (of course, the Alamanc is published in Boston and was created in the beginning with Boston in mind, why break the tradition?).Everybody should always own a copy of the Almanac and at this great Kindle price there is no reason for anybody not to splurge a five spot on it.

I bought the book and realized I was able to get just as much of the information I wanted on-line. I think for the person that was truly curious, it would be a very interesting and useful book. I find that the dates and predictions hold very close to true. For someone who is only curious when the first cool front will bring a relief to the hot dry summers it is not as in-depth ans I would have anticipated. I think however, it contains a wealth of information and for those who garden, like interesting facts and have the time to really read it through it would be a good investment!

A family favorite. A book that I would get my father every year at Christmas. Full of wonderful, useful information that can be used all year round. In-depth information on cycles of the Moon, gardening by the seasons, healing remedies and natural solutions. This is a yearly must have!

I love my Farmers Almanac. I have been looking forward to reading it every year for 40 years. And last year when I could buy it for my Kindle. Amazing. This year was just as great.The only complaint I have is unlike last year all the weather diagrams are really really small.And they will not enlarge. I can not read the rainfall diagram at all.They are about 1/4 the size of last years. Please fix that folks. I just started reading. So I do not know about the rest of it.But I will still enjoy my almanac.......but only 4 stars instead of 5.

In his book, "Post-Marxist Theory, An Introduction", Philip Goldstein ambitiously evokes the criticisms of Marxist theory through a discussion of the post-marxist revolution in theory. This is accomplished through an examination of both Foucauldian and Althusserian views of societal constructs such as oppression and racism and their influence on later theory. In this book Goldstein introduces the philosophies of many important contemporary theorists who reacted against the pre-conceived Marxist notions of "class context and economic determination", influenced by the works of Foucault and Althusser. This approach delineates not only the complex philosophies of Marx, Foucault, and Althusser, but also that of the other theorists, each with a rather wide scope of interest. Nevertheless, the complexity of the subject matter does not detract from the methodical way in which Goldstein presents his argument. In the introduction, Goldstein outlines briefly the major tenants of Marxist theory and shows through the very salient example of author Zora Neale Hurston, some of the criticisms that befell this manner of analysis. Hurston, a celebrated author in her own right was forgotten, her works essentially condemned because of her focus on self-realization over the social realism that pervaded the fiction of her tumultuous time. The problems with Marxist theory were its totalitarian views, "to show that philosophy, theology, economics, and art do not have a history apart from that of their socioeconomic systems, rather the theoretical activity of the ruling class and its representatives brings these discourses together to form a unity" (Goldstein 9). In opposition to this Marxist view of society, Goldstein argues, theorists like Foucault and Althusser expounded upon the ideas of class structure to include the interplays of power and dominance in explanation of evident social oppression. These theories were readily adopted and further expounded upon in a variety of fields. Goldstein divides his book into these fields, by introducing the works of the most influential authors, and showing how their own works exist as post-marxist theory, influenced by the Foucauldian and Althusserian revolutions against Marx. The success of this book rests largely on the organization of the theorists, and the wide range of fields that Goldstein includes. The perspective that Goldstein provides as an introduction to the theorists shaped profoundly by Foucault and Althusser, serves quite well. He provides the reader with the precursors to these influential figures in their own right, and aids in elucidating some of their own philosophies by providing a very unique context for examination. Goldstein begins the book with Althusser, and provides a rather useful and unifying analysis of his Marxist criticisms. In this post-marxist vein, Althusser postulated that, " Economics, history, philosophy, mathematics, and other scientific disciplines and practices do not develop a general opposition of ideology and science...they establish their own inward criteria of validity and produce their own legitimate objects and discourses"( Goldstein 3). This not only introduces the many fields these post-modern theories influenced, but also provides a necessary summarization of Althusser's philosophies. This follows with a thorough discussion of Foucault and the idea of discourse in historical development, that discourse does not allow one to discover some underlying precursor, but that the discourse actually constitutes it. These two parental theories then lend themselves to reinvention through the political philosophies of Laclau and Mouffe which state that, "the ideological apparatures of the state construct a subject and thereby reproduce themselves, rather than the belief that predetermined historical stages explain social development"( Goldstein 9). This is followed by Butler and her Foucauldian theory of performative gender against the culturally established view of biologically determined gender. Macherey who was a contemporary of Althusser is presented in a scientific context and purports that, "theory is always situated in a practical context in which it reveals the antagonisms of and takes a position on the contrary views forming the context."(Goldstein 7). Finally, he introduces the cultural theories of Tony Bennett and John Frow which place literary history in the hands of the reader, and their own interpretations, "not the imitation of an independent reality, not an ideological form" (Goldstein 7). Each of these theories while not exhaustively represented, are presented in such a way as to appease a cursory interest in the subject. However, these theories are not introduced simply, and it would require some contextual knowledge of other theorists who are included in the discussion but whose individual philosophies are never actually shared. For example Goldstein's consistent references to Derrida and Hegel are only given in the context of their successors and, without some understanding of their literary tradition their presence has little meaning and could obfuscate the text for some.Also, Goldstein's focus on the initial works of Foucault and Althusser, while necessary is a bit too pervasive when examining the other theories. While his approach to Butler or Macherey requires that he include context, the time that he spends introducing and reintroducing Foucault, or Althusser in his discussion of the more contemporary theorists among others does not isolate the significance of the theorist in question an often times portrays their works as revisions. Nevertheless, given the approach that Goldstein takes, the motivation to counter Marxist theory serves as a very successful means of understanding the essential tenants of the theorists he discusses. As this is an introduction to post-marxist theory the main points he emphasizes do successfully define the necessity for post Marxist theory, the first theorists and their importance, and finally how their works have influenced other significant theorists in a variety of disciplines. It is a very ambitious undertaking to introduce the complex works of all these theorists while assuming a commonality between their work, their influences, and ultimately their fields in relation to Marx. This text should be used to document Marx's legacy through the theories of several contemporary writers, but beyond that none of the contemporary theories are properly introduced in their own right. The focus he chose does little to introduce the theories when some of their most obtuse aspects are the ones he emphasizes, over others that might have elucidated the authors' works far more. However, Goldstein's main audience appears to be those interested in a particular aspect of these theories and thusly would find his emphasis on their Marxist and post-marxist influences intriguing. For this audience, this is a fairly comprehensive, well-organized, and nicely specified discussion of theory post-Marx and for this audience alone should it be recommended.

I am so happy I found this desk calendar! I love the variety of designs to color. The calendar portion itself is very clean with plenty of space to write in, along with a notes section on the right side -- much appreciated! The paper quality is fine and works perfectly with pens and colored pencils.My only wish is that there was some sort of binding portion along the top. I haven't had any pages come off without me pulling them, but I'm nervous that it'll happen.And random complaint: the edges of the plastic corner holders at the bottom are really sharp! My sleeve catches on them every once in a while.

I actually haven't started using it yet, as of right now it isn't 2017 yet. I may edit this later when I do start using it. But I'm lazy and I'm sure everyone already has their own opinion on coloring at this point. So it likely won't happen.I did open the package and look at the calendar. There are 12 unique, and very pretty, designs--each month is different, nothing repeats. The size is nice, about the same as your typical desk calendar.

Unlike a few other reviewers I did receive the academic year calendar, so no complaints on that front. I am a bit disappointed in the quality, though. The paper is the weight of regular copy paper, which means markers soak through to the next month. The plastic tab corners also have rough plastic edges (unlike the smooth, rounded corner plastic tabs I've had with other calendars), which can snag on sweaters. It will serve its purpose well this year, but I will likely return to a higher quality calendar next school year.

I bought this for my girlfriend for her to keep at her desk at work and she has completely loved it. When ever she just needs a mental break she can color in a little section and jump right back to work. Her only gripe with the product is that she wishes the designs would have been just a little bit bigger because being busy it is impossible to finish a page, but she enjoys the little distraction it periodically provides.

I cant wait to use this once the school year starts. I have been looking for something fun and soothing for quiet moments at work and i know i found it in this blotter calendar.

The calendar itself is nice but it is not an academic year calendar as the description says. It is 2017 calendar year.

Use for work, and keeps me engaged while in office meetings.

I'm running a startup, and was excited to see a new addition of project management from HBR. Boy was I disappointed at the quality of information in this book. I've seen better blogs. The book is just a collection of well-known axioms, like identify stake-holders and make sure you have regular meetings. I don't think you need to go to Harvard to have such common sense. I picked a random place in the book, and here is a sample (inane quote):"â€œA projectâ€™s purpose is the general benefit it will provide to the organization,â€ explains Alex Walton, a Florida-based project consultant. â€œIts scope comprises the particular elements (or product attributes) that the project team can control and has agreed to deliver.â€ Duh! (Heck, the qualifications of the person their quoting is simply he lives in Florida and does project consulting. This also speaks to how much thought is put into the book.)What I was looking for --- techniques for creating project plans and specific techniques for management --- are completely missing. Stay away if you want to learn something.

I needed this book for my college Project Management class. As a PMI-CAPM, I thought this book was weak. It has some of the basic information that you'll want to know regarding PM, but it's not great. Also, consider this book is now about 6 years old and quickly falling out of touch. If you are a student and required to read this book, well, it's a place to start (I'd recommend supplementing information from other sources). As a student, I think you can get a PMI membership for about $30 and that will include free digital copies of the PMBOK and other PM texts.

Hate the class but the book wasn't a beast to read. It gave a good explanation for understanding the fundamentals of the course as long as you have a little college-level science/math background.

This book is very easy to read and understand. It proved very helpful in understanding the material in class and studying for exams. A great introduction to biomechanics and a fantastic comprehensive review of solid mechanics!

The author is deeply oriented to biomechanics of fluids both in the first and second part of the book,despite the fact it is supposed to have different approaches. The first chapters are devoted to complex mathematical demonstrations of stress-strain models and materials engineering, topics that shouldn't be considered to be suitable for starting studying biomechanics.Definitely not an introduction. Highly recommended for intermediate and advanced courses.

I hoped to use this text to teach an introductory course in biomechanics to engineers. It seems that the majority of the material is discussing general mechanics (both solid and fluid) with complete derivations. Only at the end of each chapter is there a short section on how the subject relates to biology or medicine which is what a general engineering student may not have been exposed to. On the other hand, it goes into more detail than a biology student probably needs to know. In the end, I found the book Physics of the Human Body (Biological and Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering) to be a much more well rounded text that seamlessly integrated physics and engineering with biology.

The book was in really good conditions, I got it on time and the price was great for the conditions of the book.

I was an avid Stephen King reader in high school, but I haven't really liked some of his later stuff. It seems like he gets really involved and I lose interest. I'm not trying to be insulting, it's just me, and obviously he's doing just fine without my business. But, and that's a big but, I loved this book!!! Apparently short stories from Mr King are perfect for me. I felt like I was reading a book he'd written in the seventies or eighties. Every story, except one, had me riveted to my seat. My kindle died and I just moved closer to the outlet and continued reading. 1408, the main reason I bought this book, was worth it. I'm reading, wondering when anything scary is going to happen, only to realize it's already happening and I'm terrified. Trust me, especially if you loved Stephen King like I did (Salems Lot, Carrie) then this book is for you.

Everythingâ€™s Eventual: Stephen KingThis is the first and only book by Stephen King I have ever read, and I read it twice. The first time I wasnâ€™t sure about it. Then, I returned and gave it a more thorough reading. Much better this time. Each story is like a separate little world; and theyâ€™re different from each other. Repetitions of plot and characters are avoided, allowing the expanding radius of the authorâ€™s craft to reach into new and varied fields of imagination. The brief description that accompanies each story is a great bonus, where the author reveals the kernel around which the story was created.This is for the paperback edition with the white cover and blood red highlights: perfect illustration for these tales I eventually read.

I've been reading Stephen King's novels, compilations, shorts, comic books, etc., since I first read "The Shining." He is, to me, one of the best authors of our time.This group of shorts didn't fail to deliver.I'm only a few years younger than the author but I still scare like the little girl I was when my brother told my best friend and I about the Monkey's Paw. My friend was supposed to be spending the night but instead, she ran home. (Across the street.) She wouldn't come back that night, either.I had to wait til I wasn't home alone before I could read Room 1408. And, even not alone, a few of these got to me. If I were embarrassed, I'd say so.I guess I still enjoy the ratcheting up of my heartbeat when his stories hit the mark.Thanks for another round of fun, SK. : )

As disturbing, scary, funny, moving, and enthralling as always. Just what I needed on my kindle app for times on the bus and subway when I want something to read other than depressing news about republicans attempting to end democracy. I of course had my favorites, 1408 being the most creepy and unnerving, but they all made me wish each trip on public transport could last a little longer. I think I'll invest in the paper copies too, for reading at home on dark, spooky evenings! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story, and with great intros to each tale by King himself, there's a sense of intimacy, like a fireside telling, that pulls you in close.

I read this book because my own short story collection was listed as comparable to Everythingâ€™s Eventual on Kirkus Reviews. I sincerely hope thatâ€™s the case as I found King as good as ever here, delivering short narratives as comfortable as an old pair of jeans. Truth is, I will go just about anywhere with King and did here, with the exceptions being The Dark Tower piece, â€œThe Little Sisters of Eluriaâ€â€”Iâ€™ve got a problem with cowboy fiction I guess, especially cowboy fantasy fiction. Pass! No matter what heâ€™s writing about, he knows how to be a good host. Itâ€™s hard to deny King throws some of the best word parties around. Long live short fiction!

This is a collection of stories that really, for most of them, end rather oddly, leaving one to think about the endings for days at a time. In this collection, I found a new favorite King short story: Riding the Bullet. Creepy as it is, this is probably the most humorous (in a sick way, of course) story of any King has written. Also loved Luckey Quarter, a story that makes perfect sense if one has "been there."

It's one of my absolute favorites. I love his short story collections because I can read them (or listen on audio book) in relatively short increments. The title story is my favorite in here. 1408 is, in my opinion, one of the scariest of all of king' s works. (Actually heard they made it into a movie, will be avoiding that).

2 flippers way up.Pretty much what you've come to expect from King. I love his character development and ability to accurately depict small-town life. This series is a great cross-section of all of the things King is capable of: love, lust, regret, pain, terror.Definitely worth the price. :)
